For the early kickoff, Tottenham Hotspur travelled to Brighton’s Amex Stadium with the intent of erasing the midweek’s haunting memories via an away victory over Graham Potter’s men. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men were in for a rude awakening, as the Seagulls hit 3 goals past a bewildered Spurs backline.

It all started early in the 3rd minute, as Tottenham skipper, Hugo Lloris fluffed his lines, gifting the ball to an onrushing Neal Maupay for the opener. The goalie was subsequently stretchered off due to a bizarre injury, paving the way for Paulo Gazzaniga.

Gazzaniga, however, got in on the blunder party, as he parried a shot by Aaron Connolly back into play, and the youngster finished off the rebound with aplomb in the 32nd minute. In the second half, the youngster struck again, as he latched onto Lewis Dunk’s clever pass from deep to dribble past Toby Alderweireld and finish off in the bottom right corner for a 65th-minute brace.

Meanwhile, in Merseyside Liverpool played hosts to Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City with thoughts of extending the gap at the top of the table to 8 points. Sadio Mane broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, scoring from 12 yards thanks to a James Milner assist. That was his 50th goal in 100 appearances for Liverpool.

Leicester City came back into the game in the 80th minute via James Maddison, who received an assist from Ayoze Perez to beat the Liverpool goalkeeper.

The Reds were handed a lifeline late in the game, as Mane was fouled in the box by Marc Albrighton. James Milner stepped up to score the resultant penalty, and Liverpool recorded their 17th consecutive Premier League victory.

The Reds extended their lead over Manchester City to 8 points, with the Cityzens yet to play this weekend.

The weekend’s action was kicked off by Liverpool’s away trip to Bramall Lane, and the Reds were held almost to the very end by Sheffield United. The game looked at times to be headed for a draw, with Jurgen Klopp’s men failing to register a shot on target in the first half.

Lady Luck, however, made her presence felt in the 70th minute of play, as Georginio Wijnaldum’s shot from the edge of the area somehow wriggled through Dean Henderson’s fingers for Liverpool’s winner. The Reds opened up an 8 point lead at the top of the table with Manchester City playing at the tail end of Saturday’s fixture list.

Meanwhile, in the English capital, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea registered their first clean sheet of the season against Brighton. The Blues controlled the first half with Pedro, Tammy Abraham, and Ross Barkley missing chances.

At the start of the second half, Mason Mount was brought down by Adam Webster in the box, and Jorginho finished from the penalty spot to put the game at 1-0. Brighton tried to fight back, however, a Chelsea counter-attack finished by Willian put the game to bed with 14 minutes to go.

For the last game of the day, the defending champions Manchester City started their game away in the blue half of Merseyside at the wrong end of an 8 point gap at the summit of the Premier League table.

In the 24th minute, Gabriel Jesus put City ahead with a header, but nine minutes later Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised for Everton. The game was level at the interval.

Riyad Mahrez got the Cityzens ahead in the 71st minute, as he curled a freekick past Jordan Pickford and into the goal. Raheem Sterling sealed the victory in the 84th minute, with his shot rebounding off the bar and into the net.

That win restored the five-point deficit at the top of the Premier League standings as the Cityzens recorded their 4th consecutive victory in all competitions.

The action got underway at the King Power Stadium, with Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur looking to make it back to back PL wins, however, James Maddison and his Leicester City teammates had other ideas.

Wilfried Ndidi’s goal early on was ruled offside by VAR, only for Harry Kane to break the deadlock in the 29th minute. He received Son Heung-Min’s backheel pass as he fell to the ground and audaciously sent the ball beyond Kasper Schmeichel for the lead.

Spurs found themselves on the wrong end of a VAR decision in the 64th minute, as Serge Aurier’s goal was ruled offside, and five minutes later Ricardo Pereira pulled the Lilywhites level. Five minutes to the end of the game, Maddison let loose a scorching shot from outside the box, beating Paulo Gazzaniga and sending the Foxes into top 4 on 11 points.

Later on, the champions Manchester City were seeking retribution for their loss at Carrow Road last week, and Watford were simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. City sent a message to their title challengers, and it echoed loud and clear - 8 times.

The party started as early as the 1st minute with David Silva tapping home a Kevin De Bruyne cross from close range. Six minutes later, Sergio Aguero made it 2-0 from the spot, and Riyad Mahrez made it 3-0 from a freekick moments later.

Bernardo Silva and Nicolas Otamendi then grabbed a goal each to make it 5-0 inside 18 minutes. Bernardo completed his hattrick after halftime, and Kevin De Bruyne scored a stunning goal late on as Manchester City continue to breathe down Liverpool’s neck in second place, two points behind the leaders who play tomorrow.

A few minutes later, Teemu Pukki squared a pass for a Todd Cantwell tap in, as the Canaries doubled their shock lead. Sergio Aguero pulled one back before half-time, making it 2-1 at the break.

A goal from Pukki five minutes after the break was followed up by a Rodri strike in the 88th minute, and Daniel Farke’s side had to fend off Pep Guardiola’s men for the rest of the game.

Earlier on, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool kicked off the weekend’s action with a fine display at home against Newcastle United. The Reds came from behind to win 3-1 as a Sadio Mane brace was followed by a Mohamed Salah goal in the 72nd minute. The title contenders extended their winning streak to 14 Premier League matches.

Elsewhere, Frank Lampard’s fledgelings sent a message to the Premier League elite, as they trounced Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers at the fortress that is The Molineux. Tammy Abraham led the chorus of goals, as the Nigerian born Englishman grabbed a hattrick in the 2-5 thriller.

Up North, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United ended their 3 games winless run, as Marcus Rashford’s 8th-minute penalty was all that was needed to edge Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City side 1-0.

After Saturday’s proceedings, Liverpool moved further away from Man City, with Klopp’s men opening a 5 point gap at the summit of the PL table. Spurs and United are also within touching distance of City, as both teams are a mere two points away from City’s 10.
