According to VG24/7’s source, this most definitely is not the case:
At E3 this year it appears that Sony will announce a range of features for the new service, costing “less than £50 a year” (around $80). This isn’t just a new price tag for the existing service, however. Sony plans on giving all subscribers one free PSN game per month from a pre-selected group of 2-4 games. Considering that a typical PSN game costs £6-9, “you’re basically going to be breaking even,” claimed the source.
Sony will also announce a music streaming service, similar to Spotify, for its new Premium PlayStation Network. It appears that it will be able to play music in the background whilst you play your favorite games, much like the Xbox 360 feature.
That’s all the source was willing to give away, but to warrant as substantial of a subscription price as £50 a year I certainly hope there’s more to it than that!
I’m terrible at thinking up reasons why I should be made to pay for such as service (it often makes me wonder why I became a gamer - the cash outflow is far larger than the intake!), but what about you readers? Can you think of something that would you make you pay for a Premium PSN? Are you excited by this news? Let us know in the comments below.
